Meghan Flynn notched the game-winner in the 34th minute and also assisted on the final goal of the game to set a new career high with three points. Rylie OKeefe and Carlyn Baldwin also scored for UT.Despite a slow start to the game, the Vols opened the scoring on Flynns first goal of the season. The redshirt sophomore forward corralled a great pass from Anna Bialczak in the left side of the box and placed her shot perfectly into the lower right corner of the net to put UT up 1-0.The Big Orange added to its lead with a highlight reel strike from distance by OKeefe just before halftime. The Littleton, Colo., native gathered the ball about 40 yards from goal and caught the MSU keeper off her line, sending a long attempt off the bottom of the crossbar and into the net for her fifth goal of the year to give the Vols a 2-0 lead at the break.Tennessee didnt waste much time in the second half before putting the game away with its third goal of the night. Baldwin found herself alone in front of goal for an easy tap in after a cross from Mackenzie Gouner was deflected by Flynn towards the top of the six-yard box. Baldwin was there for the easy finish to put the Vols up 3-0.Mady Hairston nearly made it 4-0 later in the second half but was unable to covert on a pair of quality chances in the 75th minute. The Bulldogs (6-10, 1-8 SEC) outshot the Vols, 15-11, for the game but sophomore goalkeeper Shae Yanez made a couple of great saves to preserve the shutout. She finished with six stops for the game before Jamie Simmons replaced her for the final nine minutes. Kennadi Carbin led MSU with five total shots and two on goal.UTs three goals tied a season high and extended the teams streak of multi-goal games to six after the Vols only had five multi-goal performances all of last season. Hannah Wilkinsons five-game goal streak came to an end, however, the New Zealand native record a point for the sixth consecutive contest with her team-leading ninth assist of the year. With the win, Tennessee continued its dominance over Mississippi State, improving to 15-2-1 all-time against the Bulldogs while earning its eighth win in the last nine meetings. The Vols now move on to a showdown with No. 2 South Carolina on Sunday evening at Regal Soccer Stadium. The Gamecocks defeated Vanderbilt, 2-1, in overtime on Thursday night to win their 15th straight game and remain undefeated. Sunday will be Senior Night as well for UT with game time slated for 5 p.m. on SEC Network +/WatchESPN (Online). Admission is free for all fans so dont miss your final chance to see the Vols play at home this season.Tim Ream Jersey .C. Lions has come to an end. But Venus, owner of five titles at the All England Club, persevered, too, barely getting past 29th-seeded Daria Kasatkina 7-5, 4-6, 10-8 to become one of only two women already into the fourth round. You see a winner go by you, and a lob go in, and youre like, `My god, whats next? said Venus, who at 36 is the oldest woman in the field and has played about 6 1/2 hours of tennis in the past two days, including singles and doubles.Of the way things went for her Friday, including the interruption at match point while she led 5-4 in the third and Kasatkina served at 30-40, Venus said: It was like a Hollywood script.Serenas mood soured when she had a set point in the first and appeared to have converted it, until McHale -- whos never been past the third round at a major -- successfully challenged the call that her shot landed out. From there, McHale played aggressively, and when she grabbed that set, 21-time Grand Slam champion Serena took out her frustration on her racket.I was just really, really, really angry. I had a lot of chances, said Serena, who acknowledged she faces a fine for her display and joked that sshe needed to reach her racket-smashing quota for the season.dddddddddddd She got really lucky on some shots.Despite all that went on in the siblings matches -- they overlapped, so their mother, Oracene Price, hustled from No. 1 Court, where she saw Venus win, across the way to catch the end of Serenas victory -- the most shocking development Friday was what was going on in Novak Djokovics third-rounder against 28th-seeded Sam Querrey of the U.S. before it was suspended because of showers in the evening.Djokovic, owner of a 30-match Grand Slam winning streak that includes the past four major titles, allowed Querrey to seize the first two sets 7-6 (6), 6-1 during their 72 minutes of action. Given the way things were going for the No. 1-seeded Djokovic, he had to be thrilled that the match was halted, giving him a night to rest and regroup.Only one man managed to move his way into the fourth round: Roger Federer. He got to play in the main stadium, with the roof overhead, and easily beat Britains Daniel Evans 6-4, 6-2, 6-2.Four other third-round mens matches were suspended in progress. Worst of all, from a scheduling standpoint, one second-round mens match is still not finished, with No. 24 Alexander Zverev locked in a fifth set against Mikhail Youzhny. And three second-round womens matches are also pending. That is why officials decided to scrap the traditional rest day on the first Sunday, something that was done only in 1991, 1997 and 2004.I might take a day off tomorrow, just because I can, the 34-year-old Federer said with a smile. Yeah, I can. Im sorry, I can. I have to take them when I can. Im an old guy.Among the other winners Friday was 2009 U.S. Open champion Juan Martin del Potro, who has had three operations on his left wrist since he last participated at Wimbledon in 2013. He eliminated fourth-seeded Stan Wawrinka, a two-time major champion, 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (2), 6-3 to reach the third round. My hands (are) shaking, del Potro said after being regaled with a lengthy ovation at Centre Court. Its a great sensation for me, because Im playing tennis again -- and I feel alive.---Follow Howard Fendrich on Twitter at http://twitter.com/HowardFendrich ' ' '
