The largest prize in Overwatchs brief history gets awarded Friday night, with the winner of the last match of the Overwatch Open taking home a cool $100,000 of the tournaments $300,000 jackpot. This weeks final LAN event in Atlanta began with the 16 surviving teams from the qualifiers, eight each from North America and Europe. If you follow the Overwatch scene, youre not the least bit surprised by the team representing North America, EnVyUs. The dominant team going back to Overwatchs beta, then under the IDDQD aegis, EnVyUs was nearly flawless in tournament play this summer. Only a single loss, a five-game loss to Rogue in the semifinals of the ESL Overwatch Atlantic Showdown, serves as a blemish on its record. As has become typical for EnVyUs; it swept through the North American finals with apparent ease. During the NA finals, EnVyUs didnt play a single game in which they were at risk of elimination and the only mild threat to its dominance was Fnatics quick Game 1 win and hot Game 2 start in Lijiang. While an EnVyUs/Rogue rematch in the grand finals would have been the storyline ending, another team had something to say about that. Rogue had a scare earlier in the day, falling behind 2-0 against FaZe, the team that knocked them down to the lower bracket in last months EU regionals (Rogue then beat Tornado.ROX to make the Atlanta LAN). After changing strategies to better isolate star Genji-player George ShaDowBurn Guschcha, Rogue escaped elimination with the reverse sweep. For Rogue, however, Misfits turned out to be too much to handle. Where Rogue has snuck in wins in the past with their all-out aggressiveness, Misfits took advantage of this tendency to pull out the wins. Where Rogues Jonathan Reinforce Larssons Reinhardt wreaked havoc at the Atlantic Showdown with his Charges, Misfits actively denied Reinforce good targets, neutralizing him enough that they were more able to deal with Kevyn TviQ Lindstr?m and Dylan aKm Bignet. Misfits finally eliminated Rogue in Game 5 in Hollywood to reach the final. Can Misfits defeat EnVyUs tonight? Itll all come down to those unanswered questions going into the final match.Avoiding the crucial mistakeRogue was an extremely dangerous opponent for Misfits, but Misfits did manage to get away with a few mistakes. The most notable one that almost cost them the whole match was in a crucial Game 4 in Eichenwalde, during an Overtime situation, the Misfits were getting the better of Rogue in a fight but they left the cart unattended too long. A clutch hold on their part salvaged that situation when they were on defense, but that lapse in attention could very well have sent them home. Against a team with EnVyUss record, youre not likely to get many second chances like that.Finding a surpriseLike Rogue, EnVyUs can be very offensive-minded, but one of the things that makes the team special is their ability to not overextend. Nobodys beaten EnVyUs enough to have any kind of blueprint to stopping them, but one of the ways Rogue was able to do it was by taking EnVyUs a little out of their comfort zones. Maps the team didnt expect, tactical hero choices that were a bit surprising to name a few.The other question is how comfortable is Misfits with throwing EnVyUs a curveball? Mika?l Hidan Da Silva is a recent trial addition after the retirement of Nikolaj Zaprey Ian Moyes earlier this month and Ruben ryb Ljungdahl is a substitute while Nicholas Skipjack Rosada is out tending to an ill family member. While the team performed excellently together - ryb did more than an admirable job filling-in - they simply dont have as much experience together as a team than some teams do. Which means flipping the script could very well backfire.Dealing with RoadhogOne thing Misfits didnt have to manage in their match against Rogue was a Roadhog. On EnVyUs, the Timo Taimou Kettunens Roadhog was a beast throughout the tournament, disrupting team after team with crazy hook skills. Even Tracers werent safe from Taimous sniper rifle-esque aim. Answering Taimous Roadhog is a key, because every fight that he disorganizes by picking off a key player costs precious time.Misfits did play against a top-tier Roadhog earlier on Thursday, Kalle hymzi Honkala of Ninas in Pyjamas. They were able to neutralize him to an extent, but they had to focus on him, something thats going to harder to do against EnVyUs with a deeper supporting cast. Can they stop Taimou without devoting too many resources towards doing that?Stopping the supportsIn Jonathan HarryHook Tejedor Rua and Sebastian chipshajen Widlund, EnVyUs has two of the best supports in the world (Id argue the best, but we can have that fight another time). One of the many things that make HarryHook and chiphajen special is that they bring that offensive-mindedness to the table. Support for them doesnt mean passive, so you literally have to worry about all six members of the team being dangerous in any given moment.Rogue has supports of their own with a similar mindset and while Misfits did beat Rogue in the end, it was more due to dealing with the tanks effectively rather than really suppressing Rogues supports. Benjamin unKOE Chevasson and Jean-Louis KnOxXx Boyer of Rogue still represented problems for Misfits and the team needs to be able to diminish EnVyUss supports as much as possible.Jessie Bates III Jersey .
