Nico Rosberg says his victory at the Belgian Grand Prix was made a little easier without having to battle recovering Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton. With Hamilton starting from the back row of the grid after incurring a huge grid penalty for a series of power unit changes throughout the weekend, Rosberg was left relatively unchallenged throughout as he led from start to finish on his way to claiming his sixth win of the season and his first victory in Belgium, ahead of Red Bulls Daniel Ricciardo and Hamilton.I just had an awesome car out there and Lewis was not there to battle it out so that made it a less-difficult weekend, Rosberg said. Its been great of course to get the win today and its a special track, but Lewis starting at the back made it a little easier this weekend. Im sure hes going to be back in Monza and its going to be a big battle as always.Rosberg believes other than the start, a red-flag period to repair barrier damage after a hefty shunt for Renaults Kevin Magnussen at Eau Rouge and subsequent safety car restart, he had the race under control. It wasnt the toughest race of course because Lewis wasnt there, thats for sure. Of course everything still needs to come together. The start is critical and with the red flag and everything it becomes a bit more complicated and messy. But once I got ahead I got a little bit of pressure from Daniel [Ricciardo] in the second stint, because he was on the soft tyre, but after that I really had good control on everything. The German had hoped to make the most of his opportunity to eek into Hamiltons championship lead, which was 19 points heading into the grand prix. While Rosberg did everything he needed to do by winning in Spa, Hamiltons third place finish means the gap between both drivers stands at nine points ahead of next weekends Italian Grand Prix.Asked whether he was disappointed not to have made a bigger indent into Hamiltons points advantage, Rosberg says he sees no reason to feel disheartened. Its not disappointing, Im happy with today. Im happy to have won the race, its been a great weekend for me, thats it, and fair play to Lewis he did a good job.John Elway Jersey . Or, in other words, the two teams would appear to have at least spoken. Instead, the winner will earn just 52 points, leaving McIlroy short even with a victory. His chances of contending this weekend seem high. McIlroy, the defending champion and also the 2012 winner at Jumeirah Golf Estates, has finished outside the top 10 only once in seven appearances, tying for 11th in 2011.Its always good to be back here, he said. I have great memories from this place, feel like my game is in pretty good shape. Ive played this golf course pretty well in the past, and hopefully, I can play it just as well, if not better, this week. (It) would be a good way to finish the year on a high and get a victory and lift the trophy and hopefully make the turkey taste a bit better at Christmas.McIlroy acknowledged that he can finish the season atop the European Tour rankings, but knows its unlikely. He must win and needs Henrik Stenson, Danny Willett and Alex Noren, each above him in the Race to Dubai standings, to struggle.ddddddddddddI can win mathematically, but its not going to happen, McIlroy said. I wouldnt hold my breath. I think the three guys that are ahead of me are playing very good golf, especially the two Swedes, Henrik and Alex.Alex, with what hes done over the past few weeks; Henrik has had a fantastic year, and so has Danny, obviously, so I dont expect those guys to play badly this week. Im just concentrating on trying to win the golf tournament, and if I can do that, Ill be very happy.McIlroy pulled out of the Turkish Airlines Open, citing security concerns, shortly before the event began earlier this month. That decision virtually ruled him out of the Race to Dubai as well. However, McIlroy, from Northern Ireland, said he has no regrets.Im very happy with my decision, he said. Ive been here for the last couple of weeks. Ive done a bit of practice, enjoyed myself. So, no, no regrets at all.Id rather have gone to Turkey wanting to go there and winning the golf tournament, rather than going there not wanting to and finishing tied 40th. What good does that do to the tournament?Although the next European Tour season begins in December, and the next U.S. PGA Tour season is already underway, McIlroy confirmed the DP World Championship will be his last event of the year. He last played in a December event in 2013. ' ' '
