Blue-chip light heavyweight prospect Oleksandr Gvozdyk has been added to the HBO PPV card headlined by the junior welterweight world title unification bout between Terence Crawford and Viktor Postol on July 23 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Top Rank announced on Friday.Gvozdyk (10-0, 10 KOs), a 2012 Olympic bronze medalist from Ukraine and one of the top prospects in boxing, will take on Tommy Karpency in a scheduled 10-round bout.Gvozdyk, 29, was supposed to box Robert Berridge in an untelevised bout on Top Ranks card on July 16 in Lancaster, California, but he was moved to the pay-per-view card a week later against Karpency, a better-caliber opponent than Berridge. The opening on the pay-per-view telecast came about because super middleweight titlist Gilberto Zurdo Ramirez tore the tendon around the knuckle of his middle finger on his right hand during a sparring session on Tuesday, forcing his first defense against Dominik Britsch to be canceled. That fight was supposed to be the co-feature on the July 23 card.So the vacant featherweight world title bout between Oscar Valdez (19-0, 17 KOs) and Matias Adrian Rueda (26-0, 23 KOs) was elevated to the co-feature position, welterweights Jose Benavidez Jr. (24-0, 16 KOs) and Francisco Chia Santana (24-4-1, 12 KOs) will meet in a 10-rounder and Gvozdyk-Karpency will open the broadcast.Karpency, a 30-year-old southpaw from Adah, Pennsylvania, has faced several quality opponents, including in a pair of light heavyweight world title bouts. Two fights ago, last September, Karpency got knocked out in the third round by world champion Adonis Stevenson, and in 2012 he lost a shutout decision to then-titleholder Nathan Cleverly. In October 2014, Karpency scored the biggest win of his career, a 10-round split decision in a major upset against faded former light heavyweight world champion Chad Dawson.Top Rank wants to measure Gvozdyks performance against how Karpency (26-5-1, 15 KOs) did with other quality opponents while also getting him his first major television exposure. My matchmakers say this is a real test for Gvozdyk, Top Rank promoter Bob Arum told ESPN.com. Karpency was the best opponent we could get on short notice, but we were told he was training for another fight. So this is a good test for Gvozdyk to prove to us that he is as good as we think he is.Ramirez (34-0, 24 KOs), meantime, underwent what Top Rank and adviser Sean Gibbons termed successful surgery to repair his torn tendon on Friday in Los Angeles. According to surgeon Dr. Steven Shin, Ramirez is expected to be out of action for five months. Cheap Nationals Jerseys . James, who turned 29 on Monday, injured his groin Friday during the Heats overtime loss at Sacramento. He sat out the following game, a 108-107 win Saturday in Portland, before coming back to help send the Nuggets to their seventh consecutive loss. Nationals Jerseys China . Los Angeles star goalie survived those perilous gymnastics with no problem, and he eventually backstopped the Kings to a skid-snapping win. Quick stopped 27 shots in his return from a 24-game injury absence, Jeff Carter scored the tiebreaking goal with 7:55 to play, and the Kings snapped their five-game losing streak with a 3-1 victory over the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday night. Anthony Rendon Jersey Large . - Connor McDavid scored 53 seconds into overtime as the Erie Otters came from behind to defeat the visiting Guelph Storm 4-3 on Saturday in Ontario Hockey League action. MIAMI -- Shin-Soo Choos first home run landed in the nightclub beyond the left-field fence, catching by surprise revelers distracted by the Miami Heat on TV. His second homer dropped into the right-field bullpen amid Marlins relievers, who saw ball coming. Clearing the hard-to-reach fence both ways, Choo went 4 for 5 Wednesday and helped the Cincinnati Reds extend their winning streak to a season-best five games by beating Miami 4-0. Mike Leake and three relievers combined on an 11-hitter for the Reds. Choo hit solo homers in the fourth and sixth inning, giving him nine this season. His ninth career multihomer game came in a spacious stadium where sluggers tend to struggle. "This ballpark is big," Choo said. "Some balls fly, some dont. Im not thinking about hitting homers. Im just swinging hard." The two-homer effort was his second in eight days, but he came into the game batting only .225 in May. "I havent been feeling great," he said, "but tonight I hit the ball on the barrel." Leake (3-2) went 6 2-3 innings, pitched around nine hits and lowered his ERA to 3.72. Reds ace Johnny Cueto is expected to return next week after being sidelined since mid-April by a sore arm, and manager Dusty Baker bristled when asked if Leakes performance saved his spot in the rotation. "Whos talking about keeping his spot?" Baker said. "Hes doing better than some of the guys on our staff. I dont understand why it was coming down between him and somebody else anyway. Leake has pitched well. It shouldnt have been thought of. Well worry about that when we get there." Leake walked one and hit a batter. The Marlins had 14 baserunners but stranded 12 and hit into two double plays. "I definitely was out of the stretch quite a bit," Leake said. "They hit a few balls hard, but a few of them werent hit too hard." Miami managed three infield hits among their 10 singles but went 1 for 10 with runners in scoring position. "Were just not getting it done," manager Mike Redmond said. "I dont know how to dress it up any more than that. Im trying to be patiient, but at the end of the day, somebodys got to step up and get a hit with a guy in scoring position.ddddddddddddquot; With the home team giving the crowd of 14,866 little to cheer about, the biggest roars came when highlights of the Heats playoff victory over the Chicago Bulls two miles away were shown on the video scoreboard. The Marlins were shut out for the seventh time, most in the majors. Cincinnati climbed a season-high eight games above .500 and improved to 5-1 against Miami, which has lost four in a row. The Marlins fell to 0-10 this year with the retractable roof open in their stadium. The ball carries better in those conditions, and Choo twice sent it flying off Alex Sanabia (2-6). Choo also led off the game with a single and scored on a double by NL RBI leader Brandon Phillips. Joey Votto added two hits and an RBI for the Reds, who improved to 20-6 when they score first. Choos four hits tied a career high, and he raised his average to .322. He improved to 5 for 5 lifetime against Sanabia. "Other than that hes batting like 1.000 off me, theres not much to say," Sanabia said. The right-hander allowed four runs in six innings and has lost five consecutive starts. The Reds led 4-0 in the seventh when Miami mounted a threat. With runners at second and third, Sean Marshall came on and struck out rookie Derek Dietrich with a 3-2 curve to end the inning. Miami put two runners aboard again in the ninth. Aroldis Chapman then threw seven fastballs of at least 100 mph to Dietrich, who finally struck out looking on a changeup. "That guy can bring it," Dietrich said. "He made a great pitch when he needed to." The Marlins rank last in the majors in wins at home, where theyre 5-13.
