who may still be there for the Chiefs."A very Merry Draftmas to you! It’s the FINAL day of 25 Days of Draftmas on Arrowhead Pride Damien Williams Jersey , where we’ve be given you a Kansas City Chiefs draft prospect every day in April leading up to the NFL Draft. This was supposed to be a video about the Chiefs trading up for Clelin Ferrell, but Frank Clark altered those plans. Instead, let’s roll with a defensive back from the Big Ten.Amani Oruwariye, cornerbackPhoto by Joe Robbins/Getty Images6’2” | 205 lbs | Penn StateDraft grade: second roundDraft range: second round40 time: 4.47NFL Combine: 36.5” vertical, 120” broad, 4.16 20yd, 6.82 3-cone, 17 bench reps2018 Stats: 12 PBU Derrick Thomas Jersey , 3 INT, 51 tacklesBackground: Three-star recruit. Second-team All-Big Ten in 2017 despite only playing as a reserve. First-team All-Big Ten in 2018. Jim Thorpe Award semifinalist in 2018 for the nation’s top defensive back.Strengths: Oruwariye is a lengthy cornerback that has the proper body mass and speed to play in any scheme. He has a nose for the football and locates it well in flight to attack at the catch point. He has very high football IQ and great understanding of route distribution when playing in zone. He is a constant threat to jump a route from zone coverage due to proper discipline and route awareness. He rarely “guesses” at the route or where the ball will go, instead relying on proper instincts to put himself in the right position.Weaknesses: While Oruwariye is comfortable in zone coverage, his footwork and turns suffer when asked to backpedal in man coverage. From press, he struggles to mirror the receiver’s footwork and his punch is very inconsistent. He tends to get too high in his shuffle and makes it very difficult to change direction quickly, particularly on in-breaking routes. NFL teams asked him to work on press coverage during the week of the Senior Bowl and he showed minimal improvement. How he fits with the Chiefs: Oruwariye is the type of player that defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo might pound the table for. His fantastic ball skills, length and speed are all key traits that Brett Veach and Spagnuolo have stated they are seeking out this offseason. Coupled with a very high football IQ and ability to fit seamlessly into pattern-matching zone coverages, Oruwariye makes an awful lot of sense for a Chiefs secondary in need of some more quality players. Should the Chiefs be able to develop his man coverage ability http://www.chiefslockerroom.com/authentic-joe-montana-jersey , Oruwariye could be a top-flight corner at the next level. What would it be like to be a Chief: “They’re a great team, they got a great offense. I could be a guy that could step up and bring a spark to the defense.”KC Draft GuideThe first-ever edition of the KC Draft Guide is available for download now for only $9.99! Collinsworth may be the best football analyst in the business, and we here at Arrowhead Pride have tremendous respect for the PFF team’s work.So we submitted a question, and it led to an excellent roundtable discussion regarding the Chiefs offseason from guys who know what they’re talking about. The roundtable (Chiefs answer begins around the 49-minute mark)My takeI have liked the Chiefs offseason thus far.It does not take a rocket (or PFF) scientist to realize the defense needed a major overhaul. Ridding your team of Eric Berry, Dee Ford and Justin Houston and bringing in an entire new defensive staff and scheme does just that. The one move that sticks with me that I didn’t like is getting rid of Ford. I would have never signed Ford to a long-term deal Len Dawson Jersey , but to me, a franchise-tag, prove-it deal was perfect. There are now no elite EDGE rushers on the team. That is why I like PFF’s suggestion that the Chiefs may be ahead of the curve — where in today’s league (based upon analytics), coverage matters much more than pass rush. That is probably why the Chiefs were willing to spend $12 million of cap space for a year of Earl Thomas. The 2009 comparison to the New Orleans Saints is the best part of this whole discussion, in my opinion. Running people out of the court in 2018 was fun when it worked, but as we saw, that isn’t a safe recipe for winning against the best teams in the league in the playoffs. If the Chiefs can slow the game down and the shift to zone means more turnovers, as Palazzolo suggests http://www.chiefslockerroom.com/authentic-marcus-allen-jersey , we could be talking about a historic regular season. Mahomes is that good and at the age of 23, should still get better.I’ve thought for a long time that the Chiefs should prioritize a pass rusher with their top pick in the NFL Draft. But based upon this chat, perhaps a cornerback or safety makes more sense.Maybe because of the scheme change and the other offseason additions, the Chiefs feel good enough to go best player available, and that could be on offense.Regardless of the direction, it will be fascinating to watch.
