PHOENIX -- Bothersome blisters aside, Rich Hills first three starts in a Los Angeles Dodgers uniform were smashing successes. The fourth, not so much.Mitch Haniger hit a three-run homer in a five-run sixth inning, and the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the NL West-leading Dodgers 7-3 Thursday night.Archie Bradley (7-9) struck out seven in six-plus innings and got plenty of run support as the Diamondbacks won their fourth straight and handed Hill his first loss with the Dodgers. The Dodgers had their lead in the division cut to four games when second-place San Francisco beat St. Louis. The Diamondbacks scored five runs in the sixth off Hill (3-1) and reliever Louis Coleman. Run-scoring singles by Paul Goldschmidt and Brandon Drury preceded Hanigers second career home run.Hill, 9-3 with Oakland before being dealt to Los Angeles on Aug. 1, allowed a run for the first time as a Dodger when Kyle Jensen homered off the center-field batters eye in the second inning. That ended Hills streak of 20 consecutive scoreless innings with Los Angeles. The reason we lost is I did not execute, Hill said. That is what it came down to, making better pitches. Unfortunately I did not do that. As frustrating as it is, especially at this point of the season, that is unacceptable. In his last start, Hill had a perfect game for seven innings against Miami last Saturday before being lifted. He was charged with four runs on four hits in 5 1/3 innings on Thursday. He had good fastball command. His breaking ball was good but he left a couple of fastballs out and over that they took advantage of, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said. Actually he threw the ball well, but we really couldnt get anything together, muster anything together tonight.Arizona added to its lead with Chris Owings two-out single in the third to drive in Tuffy Gosewich.Bradley struck out the side in his first two innings and allowed three runs and nine hits. The Dodgers scored twice in the seventh to chase Bradley. A wild pitch allowed Joc Pederson to race home, and Chase Utley doubled in Andrew Toles.Patrick Corbin earned his first save by pitching three scoreless innings.Obviously were not in the hunt to win it (the division). They are, Diamondbacks manager Chip Hale said. Were going to do everything we can to beat them.BENCHES EMPTYBoth dugouts and bullpens emptied in the top of the fifth after Hill attempted to reach on a bunt attempt. Hill shouted at Bradley as he ran up the first-base line, then gestured at Bradley again after he was thrown out. Bradley shouted back at Hill, and players from both teams streamed onto the field.Bradleys pitch to Hill on the bunt was well inside and toward Hills hands. There was no ill will or anything like that, Hill said. Just competitive and got excited. The pitch was supposed to be inside, it just missed. Maybe being a pitcher I got a little to excited. Its my finger, index finger on the bat, Hill added. I totally get it as a competitor. You are tying to make a pitch and you miss in. Its just kind of the heat of the moment. It took only a few moments for order to be restored though both benches were warned by home plate umpire Ron Kulpa. The Dodgers proceeded to score their first run after Bradley walked Utley, then with two outs, Justin Turner doubled to the right field wall to drive in Utley.Hill faced Bradley the very next inning and struck him out looking.TRAINERS ROOMDodgers: LHP Alex Wood, on the 60-day disabled list with an elbow injury, could soon be activated, but as a reliever. Wood went on the DL on May 31 and made 10 starts before that, going 1-4 with a 3.99 earned run average.Diamondbacks: Pitcher Rubby De La Rosa will be shut down from pitching in major league games as he looks to overcome an elbow issue that has affected his mechanics and control, even though De La Rosa is physically fine.UP NEXTDodgers: RHP Kenta Maeda (14-9) is already tied for second in wins in a season by a Los Angeles Dodgers rookie. He faces Arizona, against which he faced and won on Sept. 5 at Dodger Stadium.Diamondbacks: RHP Zack Greinke (12-6) lost to the Dodgers the last time he faced his former team, rocked for eight runs on nine hits including five home runs in Los Angeles. Hes set for his seventh career start against the Dodgers.Tom Seaver Mets Jersey . It just didnt show when he hit the ice. I was always using the excuse that Im young, so Im going to recover and stuff like that.Oh, those know-it-all youngsters.Williams realized toward the end of a solid rookie year that he, too, could benefit from cold tub therapy. Many athletes use ice baths to help reduce inflammation, prevent muscle stiffness and soreness, and speed recovery after vigorous workouts. The season was long and I started feeling it, and Im starting now, Williams said. Im not going to wait until later when I start to feel it.Williams finished with three sacks and 63 total tackles while starting 15 of 16 games after being selected with the No. 6 overall pick out of Southern California in 2015. The man nicknamed Big Cat with the puffed-out mane made an impact on Todd Bowles defense, teaming with Muhammad Wilkerson, Sheldon Richardson and Damon Harrison to form one of the NFLs most dominant lines. He wasnt satisfied with his promising performance and was intent on being better in his second year. That meant pinpointing some of the things he needed to improve on and taking more naps, getting massages, doing more yoga and simply relaxing when hes not on the field.Just being more professional, Williams said. Taking care of my body, getting in the ice bath and stuff like that. Its a long season that I wasnt used to in college, and I could tell at the end of the season. Just being a more well-rounded player this year.Hes also no longer trying to feel his way through the league and getting adjusted to life as a pro. When youre a rookie and youre a first-rounder, theres so much pressure on you, Williams said. Theres just so much -- a new system, new coaches, a new playbook, new teammates. Now that Ive had a year here and I had a year with the playbook and my teammates and coaches, everythings more comfortable.Another positive for Williams is that hes playing in the same system in consecutive seasons for the first time since high school. At USC, he had different defensive coordinators in eachh of his three years: Ed Orgeron as a freshman, Clancy Pendergast as a sophomore and Justin Wilcox as a junior.ddddddddddddIt makes me more comfortable when I know what Im doing out there, Williams said. I dont have to think and I can just fly around.Heading into the draft last year, Williams was considered by many to be the best overall player available. He was a potential No. 1 overall pick, but fell to the Jets at sixth and joined an already stout line.Williams didnt need to be an impact player right away because of the talent around him, but his reputation and lofty draft status had many expecting big things. In the NFL, theres always going to be pressure, Williams said. There are guys getting drafted, guys leaving and guys coming. Youve got to play with that pressure on you all the time. Ive gotten used to that, and as the year went on last year, I kept getting better and better. The Jets defensive line has a slightly different look at nose tackle this season with former Steelers standout Steve McLendon replacing Harrison, who signed with the Giants as a free agent.I love it, Williams said. Hes a physical guy and hes quick off the ball. I can just tell hes that old-school, traditional type of football player. Ive worked well with him so far and Im excited to see where were going to go.Richardson will miss the opener because of an NFL-issued suspension stemming from his arrest during the 2015 offseason, a violation of the leagues personal-conduct policy. Hell be available in Week 2.Wilkerson is back after a contract dispute that potentially could have played out into training camp and beyond. The Jets signed him to a five-year extension and Wilkerson expects to be ready to play in Week 1 of the regular season against Cincinnati as he continues to work his way back from a broken leg suffered in the final game last year. With him, Williams, Richardson and McLendon anchoring the line, the Jets are planning to make things even tougher on opponents up front. We can be very good, Williams said. Were excited to see what type of packages and everything that will be put together when he gets back.---AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org and AP NFL Twitter feed: http://twitter.com/AP-NFL ' ' '
